The Fortinet ADM-XB2 is a double-width Advanced Mezzanine Card module that adds two accelerated 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces to the FortiGate platforms carrying AMC bays, principally the FortiGate 3000 and 5000 series of that generation. The ports are XFP-based and the module carries Fortinet’s network processor acceleration, so traffic matching a fast-path session is switched in hardware rather than being handled by the main CPU, which is what allows a chassis to hold throughput as 10 GbE links are added. The XB designation marks the module as a bypass-capable type, so a configured pair of ports can fail to wire on power loss or software fault and keep the segment up.
