The IBM 00RP698 is a Memory Buffer VRM (PWR CENT VRM ASM), CCIN 6B33, regulating the power feed to the Centaur memory buffer chips on IBM Power System E870, E880 and S824 (Power8) servers. IBM issues sibling part numbers for the same CCIN as production runs, so 00RP698 and 00RR681 are the same functional card under different ordering numbers. The Centaur buffer chip sits between the POWER8 processor and the physical DIMMs and needs a dedicated, independently regulated supply, which is what this VRM provides on the CEC.
