The IBM 10N7204 is a 146GB 15,000RPM SAS hard disk drive in a 3.5-inch large form factor carrier, built for IBM Power Systems and pSeries servers that use SAS-attached internal or external disk storage. The 15K spindle speed gives this drive significantly faster seek and transfer performance than the 10K and 7.2K SAS/SATA drives IBM offered alongside it, making it the preferred choice for database, virtualisation and other I/O-intensive AIX or Linux workloads where access latency matters more than raw capacity. It ships in the hot-swap carrier used across IBM’s Power server disk bays, letting a failed drive be replaced without powering down the host.
