The IBM 09P1509 is an 18.2GB SSA disk drive, Feature #3811, built for the RS/6000 SP parallel system and its associated SSA storage subsystems. SSA (Serial Storage Architecture) was IBM’s high-availability disk-attachment technology through the late 1990s, wiring drives into redundant loops so that a single drive or cable fault did not take an array offline. Drives of this capacity were among the larger ones available on SSA before the technology gave way to Fibre Channel.
