The IBM 42R8401 is a 1475W hot-swappable, redundant AC power supply, IBM CCIN 51BA, built for the 9113 and 9133 pSeries/iSeries server families (including the p550 platform). It is designed to be installed alongside a second unit so that either supply can be removed and replaced live without taking the host system down.

This class of power supply is one of the most commonly replaced FRUs on systems of this generation, since power supplies are subject to continuous electrical and thermal stress. A genuine unit restores full power redundancy after a failed supply is identified, protecting the host against an unplanned outage from a single remaining supply failing under load.
