The IBM 44V8577 is a CADET-2 PCI-X-generation SAS controller card, in the same CADET SAS controller family as the CADET-E PCIe adapter 44V8580 and the PCI-X 2.0 adapter 44V8579 (CCIN 572A). It provides SAS storage connectivity for Power Systems servers of the PCI-X generation, letting a host attach and manage SAS disk arrays via a dedicated controller card. Genuine spares of this type are needed to maintain or expand SAS storage connectivity on legacy PCI-X Power Systems configurations.
