The IBM 46K7041 is a media backplane carrying the internal engineering name “Dunbar”, the same designation used on the related Power7-era system backplane 46K4816. Media backplanes of this type connect a server’s optical and tape drive bays to its system board, distinct from the disk/DASD backplanes that carry hard drives. Backplanes of this class are typically diagnosed and replaced when a system’s removable-media bay stops being recognised, independently of its processor or disk subsystems.
