The IBM 97P6219 is a GX RIO-2 (Remote I/O-2) loop adapter with two copper ports, supplied complete with cable. RIO-2 is IBM’s high-speed proprietary interconnect for attaching external I/O drawers to a pSeries or iSeries central electronics complex, and this card plugs into a GX bus slot on the processor drawer to extend that loop. Each RIO-2 loop typically runs to a pair of ports so I/O drawers can be connected in a resilient loop rather than a single point-to-point link, and losing one adapter reduces I/O bandwidth and redundancy rather than taking the drawer fully offline. GX RIO-2 adapters are specific to the processor drawer generation they were designed for and are not interchangeable across unrelated pSeries families.
