IBM 81Y3672: UltraSlim Enhanced SATA DVD-RW optical drive for IBM servers.

The IBM 81Y3672 is an UltraSlim Enhanced SATA DVD-RW optical drive, also cross-referenced under the part numbers 74Y7346, 74Y7341, 44V4220 and 44W3256 and built around the Panasonic/Matshita UJ8A0 mechanism. It is a slim, tray-loading internal drive with a SATA interface, designed to slot into the thin optical bays used across IBM’s rack and tower server ranges rather than a standalone desktop enclosure.

A working optical drive remains a practical requirement on many older servers for local operating-system installs, firmware updates and diagnostic boot media, even where day-to-day operations have long since moved to network installs, and a genuine matched drive is the straightforward way to replace a failed or missing unit. Confirm the exact server model and bay type this is going into before ordering, since IBM used several different slim optical form factors across its server generations.
