The Juniper SRX3K-NPC-C is a Network Processing Card (NPC) for the SRX3000-series (SRX3400 and SRX3600) Services Gateway. The NPC handles traffic management, packet forwarding and interface processing at wire speed, distributing inbound and outbound traffic to the appropriate Services Processing Cards (SPCs) and I/O Cards (IOCs) and enforcing QoS and DOS/DDoS protections. It is a hot-pluggable, hot-insertable field-replaceable unit designed for tool-less removal and replacement without powering down the chassis, and higher-throughput deployments typically run several NPCs in parallel.
