The Nera 2NCS590C-F3 is an optical interface baseband card used within Nera’s InterLink family of split-mount microwave radio-relay systems, providing a 155Mb/s STM-1 optical transceiver interface for single-mode fibre alongside a 1.5Mb/s electrical wayside channel. The ‘F3’ variant is built to a target reach of around 15km over single-mode fibre and complies with the ITU-T G.957 and G.958 recommendations governing SDH optical interfaces, ensuring interoperability with standard SDH transport equipment at the far end of the link. Within an InterLink shelf, this card handles the conversion and framing between the radio system’s baseband traffic and an external SDH network, letting operators hand off point-to-point microwave capacity directly into a fibre-based SDH ring or aggregation node. Cards of this type are field-replaceable and were widely deployed by mobile and fixed-line operators using Nera microwave backhaul in the 1990s and 2000s.
