This Nortel BPS2000 module is a single-port GBIC Media Dependent Adapter (MDA), an add-on expansion card that fits the Business Policy Switch 2000’s dedicated MDA bay to add one GBIC-based Gigabit Ethernet uplink slot to the switch. Unlike the fixed-optic 1000BASE-T or 1000BASE-SX MDA variants, this GBIC version accepts interchangeable GBIC transceivers, letting a site fit copper or a choice of fibre optics to match its specific uplink cabling and distance requirements without swapping the MDA itself. The BPS2000 range remains deployed as a stackable edge switch platform in many established installations.
