Nortel NT1X68BC (telecommunications transmission and networking portfolio) Telecom System Card / Module

The Nortel NT1X68BC is a 9-track magnetic tape controller for the Nortel DMS-100 central-office digital switching platform, part of the NT1X-prefixed peripheral-interface family Nortel used on early DMS-100 processor and I/O shelves. Before disk-based and later solid-state storage became standard, DMS-100 exchanges used 9-track tape drives for office data backup, software loading and billing-record offload, and this controller card is what let the switch’s processor talk to that tape peripheral over its I/O bus. DMS-100 exchanges of this vintage remain in service in a small number of established networks, and genuine peripheral-interface spares are needed to keep the original tape subsystem operational where it has not been retired. Tech-Star (UK-based, shipped worldwide) stocks Nortel DMS-100 cards to support ongoing exchange maintenance.
