The Nortel NTCA40BA is a breaker/filter (fuse) module for the Optera Long Haul optical transmission shelf, a revision of the same common equipment family as the NTCA40AA. It protects and filters the DC power feed distributed to the shelf’s OC-192/STM-64 line cards and controllers.

As a common equipment card in the optical shelf’s power distribution path, the breaker/filter module guards against overcurrent conditions and filters noise from the incoming DC supply before it reaches the shelf’s optical transmission electronics. Being field-replaceable, the card allows power protection to be restored on an individual shelf without a full system outage.
