Nortel NTFN33HB (telecommunications transmission and networking portfolio) Telecom System Card / Module

The Nortel NTFN33HB is a Control Processor (CP) module for the Magellan Passport wide-area switching platform, Nortel’s original name for the Passport 6400/7400 family before the later Passport/Succession rebrand. The CP module is the shelf’s central processing card, running the node’s control-plane software and coordinating the function processors that terminate individual trunks and interfaces, so it is one of the few genuinely mandatory cards in a Passport shelf rather than an optional line card. It carries CLEI code BAC3TZ0BAG in Nortel’s own equipment identification scheme, placing it within the documented CP-module family alongside sibling variants such as the NTFN33GA and NTFN33DA Control Processor 2 boards used on later Passport 6480-class shelves. Magellan Passport/Passport nodes remain in service in a number of long-running carrier and enterprise WAN cores, and a Control Processor failure takes the whole shelf down, making a spare one of the highest-priority items to hold for anyone still operating this platform.
