The Nortel NTHR35CA is a Control Processor 2 (CP2) module for the Passport 15000 high-capacity switching platform, built with an E1 BITS (Building Integrated Timing Supply) timing reference input. The CP2 module is the shelf’s central control-plane card, running the node’s control software and coordinating the function processors and switching fabric fitted in the same Passport 15000 shelf; the E1 BITS variant additionally accepts an external E1-rate timing reference, letting the node synchronise its internal clock to a site’s central timing source rather than relying solely on a recovered clock from its own trunk interfaces. This positions it in the NTHR-prefix Passport 15000 card family alongside the platform’s fabric, alarm/BITS and function-processor modules already confirmed in this catalogue. Passport 15000 was Nortel’s large-scale carrier-grade multiservice switching platform, and a number of these nodes remain in service in carrier and large-enterprise cores.
