The Nortel NTJS17AA is a termination panel for the Passport 6400/7400 wide-area switching platform, providing the physical cable connection point (typically a bank of connectors mounted at the rear or front of the shelf) that a function processor’s internal circuitry is wired through to reach external trunks and interfaces. Termination panels on the Passport range are matched to specific function-processor types and port counts, so the correct panel has to be fitted alongside its associated function processor for that card’s ports to actually be presented for cabling; the panel itself carries no active electronics. It sits in the same NTJS-prefix hardware family as the platform’s other panel and interface-adapter parts built for the 6400/7400 chassis range. Because a termination panel is a passive, mechanically-specific part rather than an active card, replacements are usually needed after physical damage or when reconfiguring a shelf’s port layout rather than through electronic failure, and genuine Nortel panels are required to match the shelf’s existing function-processor fit.
