The Nortel NTJS60BA is a Passport 6480 AC shelf, the AC-powered chassis for Nortel’s Passport 6400/6480 multiservice switching platform, self-describing from its own source label. It houses the function processors, control processors and switch-fabric cards that make up a Passport 6480 node, drawing AC mains power rather than the DC feed used by equivalent DC shelf variants documented on other Passport platforms in this range.

Passport 6400/6480 is a smaller-footprint member of Nortel’s Passport multiservice switching family, carrying ATM, frame relay and IP services for enterprise and smaller carrier sites. Passport 6480 installations remain in service on a number of established networks, and a genuine replacement shelf such as this one is typically needed for expansion or to replace a damaged chassis rather than as a routine wear item.
