The Nortel NTK505LAE5 is an OME 6500 Access Panel (SDH variant), part of the NTK505-prefixed shelf-panel family already catalogued alongside the OME 6500’s 40A DC power interface panel and Message Interface Controller panel. The Access Panel provides the physical cross-connect/patch point for an OME 6500 shelf’s SDH tributary and aggregate connections, giving engineers a fixed front-of-shelf point to patch cabling without disturbing the line cards themselves. Tech-Star supplies this as a secondary-market spare for maintaining or expanding an existing OME 6500 SDH shelf. Access panels of this kind are a low-failure-rate item, but they are still routinely damaged by miscabling or physical knocks during rack work, and replacing the panel rather than the shelf’s cards behind it is the more economical repair in that situation.
