The Nortel NTHQ14EA is a Nortel Passport 6420 chassis, part of the Passport 6400 series of Multiservice Edge Switches.

Rather than a wiring-closet LAN switch, the Passport 6400 series is a WAN edge platform that consolidates an enterprise’s LAN, legacy data, telephony and video traffic onto leased lines, public or private frame relay, or ATM, letting branch and regional sites connect back over a shared WAN service. The 6420 is the smallest chassis in the range, with three module slots and AC-only power, housing the switch backplane and slots for the line, uplink and control modules available on the platform. As a chassis unit it forms the base into which those modules are fitted, rather than being a complete standalone switch on its own.

Passport 6400 deployments of this generation occasionally remain in service in legacy networks, and genuine chassis units such as this one are useful for maintaining or rebuilding an existing installation.
