The Nortel NTBX01BA is an Enhanced ISDN Signalling Pre-Processor (ISP) card for the DMS-100 central-office switching platform, fitted specifically to slot 4 of the RCO2 (Remote Carrier Office) unit. The ISP handles ISDN D-channel signalling processing ahead of the main call-processing complex, offloading signalling work from the core processor on offices that carry ISDN trunk or line traffic. DMS-100 exchanges of this generation remain in service in a number of established telecoms networks, and genuine ISP spares are a routine requirement for maintaining ISDN signalling capacity or restoring redundancy after a card failure.
