The IBM 39J4996 is a PCI-X DDR dual-channel Ultra320 SCSI adapter from the feature 1912 family (also shipped as FC 0647, 5736 and 5775, CCIN 571A). The adapter provides two independent Ultra320 SCSI channels running at up to 320MBps each, using low-voltage differential (LVD) drivers and terminating externally through a pair of VHDCI 68-pin connectors; each channel can be configured for internal or external attachment but not both at once. This was IBM’s standard high-performance SCSI adapter across Power5, Power6 and Power7-generation servers before SAS became the default internal storage interconnect.
