IBM 42R7968: internal DVD-RAM optical drive for IBM Power Systems / System x servers.

The IBM 42R7968 is an internal DVD-RAM optical drive, a genuine IBM component fitted to the media bay of IBM’s rack-mount and tower server ranges. DVD-RAM drives of this generation support rewritable optical media in addition to standard read-only DVD and CD formats, and were used for firmware loading, operating-system installation media and, on some systems, as a rewritable backup or data-transfer medium at the server chassis itself.

Optical drives are a common failure point on servers that have been in continuous service for many years, making a genuine replacement a routine spare rather than an unusual request. Check physical bay dimensions and interface against your IBM chassis before ordering. Tech-Star, UK-based and shipping worldwide, stocks IBM optical drives.
