The IBM 46K6838 is a 4Gb/s, single-port PCI-X Fibre Channel host bus adapter, IBM feature 280D (also shipped as FC 5758/1905), used to connect Power Systems servers to Fibre Channel SAN storage at 4Gb/s. It is a single-port card, giving one Fibre Channel connection per adapter slot rather than the dual-port configurations used in higher-throughput configurations. HBAs of this type were a standard SAN-attachment option across IBM’s POWER5 and POWER6 mid-range servers, and remain in demand for maintaining existing Fibre Channel infrastructure that has not been upgraded to newer host-bus-adapter generations.
