IBM 53P2650: feature #4687 50/100GB SLR100 internal tape drive w/tray, for AS/400/iSeries.

The IBM 53P2650 is the IBM 4687 internal tape drive, an SLR100 LVD SCSI cartridge tape unit with 50GB native and 100GB compressed capacity, supplied with its mounting tray for AS/400 and iSeries system units and expansion towers. Sold under IBM’s #4687 feature numbering, the drive provides local backup, save/restore and program-distribution capability directly on the system unit, using SLR100 quarter-inch cartridges for higher capacity than the earlier #4487 and #6383 tape families. AS/400 and iSeries installations retaining an internal tape configuration of this kind remain in service across a number of long-running midrange environments, and a genuine, working #4687 drive is a routine requirement for restoring local backup capability after a drive failure.
