The Nortel AA1419002-E5 is a 1-port 1000Base-LX Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC), a full-size hot-swappable optical transceiver for Nortel’s BayStack, Business Policy Switch and Passport/Accelar gigabit uplink ports. 1000Base-LX runs over single-mode fibre, typically to around 10km or further over suitable single-mode links, using 1310nm long-wavelength optics with a duplex SC connector, and is the standard choice for building-to-building or longer in-campus gigabit uplinks where the shorter-reach 1000Base-SX GBIC will not reach. GBIC-based gigabit ports remain common on Nortel switching hardware still in service across established enterprise networks, and genuine optics are needed to maintain uplink capacity or replace a failed transceiver.
