The HP J8161A is a ProCurve Switch XL 10/100-TX PoE module, a line card for the 5300xl and 8000M chassis switch families that adds ports delivering both 10/100 copper connectivity and Power over Ethernet to end devices such as IP phones, wireless access points and cameras. As a PoE-capable module it draws from the chassis’s shared power budget, so the host chassis’s installed power supplies must have sufficient capacity for the number of PoE ports actually populated.
