The Ciena 130-5281-900 is a MultiWave Service Channel Modem (SCM) for Ciena’s MultiWave optical transport platform. It modulates and demodulates the optical service channel, the dedicated management wavelength that carries orderwire, control and monitoring communications between nodes on a DWDM link.

Rather than a passive wavelength filter, this is an active modem card that terminates the service-channel signal so operators can supervise and manage the optical line across metro and regional spans. It forms part of the service-channel and management subsystem within a MultiWave shelf, working alongside the system’s control and optical channel cards.

The 130-5281-900 is a legacy Ciena MultiWave component that remains relevant for maintaining deployed MultiWave networks and for spares provisioning.
