The Nortel 34010-S is an Access Stack Node (ASN) single-port 100Base-T net module, a spare Fast Ethernet interface module for the Nortel/Bay Networks Access Stack Node router platform. ASN routers took their WAN and LAN interfaces via plug-in net modules rather than fixed ports, with a selection covering Ethernet, 100Base-T Fast Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, synchronous serial, T1, E1, and ISDN BRI/PRI, so an ASN chassis could be configured for whatever mix of interfaces a site needed. This particular module adds a single 100Base-T Fast Ethernet port, and sits alongside the related 34008-S/34000-S net modules from the same platform. ASN routers were a Bay Networks/Nortel enterprise routing platform from the 1990s, and while long superseded, net module spares like this one remain a routine requirement for the small number of sites still running original ASN hardware.
