The Nortel NT6D73AA is a BRI (Basic Rate ISDN) Signalling Processor for Meridian 1 Option 51 through Option 81 systems, the card that handles ISDN BRI call-control signalling for the larger Meridian 1 chassis range. BRI signalling processors sit alongside the platform’s BRI line cards, offloading the D-channel signalling processing for ISDN Basic Rate circuits so that call setup, teardown and feature signalling for BRI-connected devices (ISDN phones, terminal adapters, or trunk connections) is handled centrally rather than by each line card individually. This Option 51-81 variant is built for the larger-capacity Meridian 1 chassis range, distinct from the equivalent NTBK22AA signalling processor built for the smaller Option 11 chassis. Meridian 1 systems using BRI for either station-side ISDN devices or BRI trunking remain in service in a number of legacy PBX installations.
