The Dell Powerconnect-3448 is a 48-port managed Layer 2 Ethernet switch with 10/100 access ports, two SFP slots and gigabit uplink capability, in a 1U rack chassis.

It belongs to the PowerConnect 3400 series, which Dell positioned as the managed edge option for small and mid-sized sites: VLANs, spanning tree, link aggregation, port mirroring and a web interface, without requiring a full enterprise switch. Forty-eight fast Ethernet ports with fibre uplinks was the standard wiring closet configuration of the period, and units of this generation are still found in service where the desktop estate has not needed gigabit to the port.

The SFP slots take standard gigabit optics, so the uplink reach depends on the module fitted rather than on the switch, and optics are usually supplied separately.
