The EMC 5049033 is a 600 GB 15,000 rpm 3.5 inch hard disk drive supplied as an EMC array drive. Drives sold under an EMC part number carry EMC firmware and are presented in the carrier the array expects, which is what allows the storage processor to recognise the disk and bring it into a RAID group without manual intervention.

A bare drive of the same capacity and speed bought on the open market will usually be rejected or flagged by the array, so the EMC coded part is the one to order. 15,000 rpm 3.5 inch disks of this size were the performance tier in CLARiiON and Symmetrix systems before flash took that role, and they are still called for as replacements in arrays that remain in production.
