The EMC 293-709-903A is a 32 GB M9 cache memory board for the Symmetrix DMX-3, also fitted in the DMX-4. It carries 32 GB of global memory built up from 512 MB modules and plugs into a memory slot in the Symmetrix cabinet, where it forms part of the shared cache that every director in the system reads and writes through.

Symmetrix architecture puts the cache between the front end and back end directors rather than inside the controllers, so cache boards are added to raise the performance of the whole array rather than one path through it. Boards are populated in a defined order and a replacement should match both the capacity and the M9 generation of the ones already fitted. EMC was acquired by Dell in 2016, and Symmetrix became the ancestor of the VMAX and PowerMax lines. Refurbished.
