The EMC 293-801-970D is a 4 Gbit/s universal director board for the Symmetrix DMX range, supplied with four Fibre Channel mezzanine cards fitted. The universal director is the board that can be configured as a front end director serving hosts or as a back end director driving the disks, which is where the name comes from, and the mezzanine cards provide the actual 4 Gbit/s Fibre Channel ports.

Directors are installed in pairs on opposite sides of the Symmetrix cabinet so that the loss of one leaves every device still reachable. The D ending is the build revision; EMC shipped several against this base number and the revision should be matched to the rest of the set where possible. EMC became part of Dell in 2016 and the Symmetrix line continued as VMAX. Refurbished.
