The HP J4907A is a ProCurve Switch XL module, 10/100/1000 with 14 RJ45 ports plus 2 dual-purpose ports (RJ45 or mini-GBIC), an expansion module for HP’s ProCurve Switch XL modular chassis family (the predecessor platform to the later vl and zl ranges). Fitted into an open XL chassis bay, it provides a mixed block of copper Gigabit ports with two flexible ports that can take either a further copper connection or a mini-GBIC fibre transceiver, giving some uplink flexibility without a dedicated fibre-only module. The XL chassis platform remains in service in a number of longer-established enterprise deployments that have not migrated to newer chassis generations. Genuine modules of this kind are routinely needed to expand an existing XL chassis or replace a faulty module during maintenance. Specifiers should confirm XL chassis compatibility before ordering, as XL modules are a distinct form factor from the later vl and zl module families.
