The HP J9550A is a 24-port Gig-T v2 module built for HP’s zl-series modular chassis switches (5400zl and 8200zl), adding a block of 24 copper Gigabit Ethernet ports to whatever chassis it’s installed in. The v2 revision is a later hardware version of the original Gig-T zl module, offering the same port count and speed with updated internal components; genuine v2 modules are backward compatible with existing zl chassis but should be matched against the chassis’s minimum firmware requirement before ordering. zl-series chassis switches are populated with a mix of these access modules and uplink/fibre modules depending on the site’s port and speed requirements, and a spare Gig-T module is a routine requirement for restoring lost port capacity after a module failure or adding density ahead of a network expansion.
