The HP J9008A is a 2-port 10-GbE module with two SFP+ ports, built for HP’s zl-series modular chassis switches (5400zl/8200zl) to provide high-speed interconnect and uplink capacity from a populated chassis into the core or between stacked switches. Unlike the older X2-based 10-Gigabit modules HP also sold for the zl range, this SFP+ variant uses the smaller, hot-swappable SFP+ optics and DACs that became the industry standard for 10-Gigabit interconnects, giving buyers a wider and cheaper choice of transceivers than the older X2 form factor. It occupies one module bay in a 5400zl or 8200zl chassis alongside whatever access-layer modules are also fitted. As zl-series chassis switches remain in service well past their original sale date, a spare 10-GbE module of this kind is a routine requirement for restoring lost uplink capacity or adding redundancy.
