The IBM 00J0278 is an Enclosure Services Manager module for the EXP24S SAS disk expansion drawer, IBM’s 5887 unit for attaching small form factor SAS disks to Power Systems servers. This module is the part of the drawer that talks to the host SAS adapter and reports the enclosure’s own status, covering drive presence, fault indication and cooling, so a drawer without a healthy module cannot present its disks. Drawers are normally populated with two modules for redundancy, and the module is replaced on its own rather than with the drawer.
