The IBM 98Y3780 is recorded as an 8 Gbit/s four port long wave storage adapter. Long wave means single mode optics, used where the fibre run is longer than multimode will carry, and the card has four ports at an 8 Gbit/s link rate. Adapters are qualified against particular storage machine types rather than being interchangeable across the range.
