The IBM 39Y9661 is an Advanced Management Module (AMM) for the IBM BladeCenter chassis, the module responsible for chassis-wide management of power, cooling, blade servers and I/O modules from a single point. It provides a web-based management interface that can be accessed remotely, along with automated monitoring and alerting for hardware failures, power issues and other chassis events, with alerts deliverable by email or SNMP. Security features include LDAP and Active Directory authentication, role-based access control, and an SSL-encrypted web server. The AMM installs into a dedicated management bay in the BladeCenter chassis and can be configured in a redundant pair for high-availability management. BladeCenter deployments of this era remain in service across a number of established data-centre environments, and genuine management modules such as this one are a routine requirement for restoring chassis management after a failure or building out a complete BladeCenter unit.
