The NEC X7152C01 is an optical-card unit for NEC’s FOTS (Fiber Optic Transmission System) FD-1840-series optical transmission platform, sharing the X715x numbering block with NEC’s X7153B, a FOTS high-speed optical transmit card. The FD-1840 series is SDH/PDH-generation fibre-optic transmission equipment used to multiplex and carry voice, data and alarm signalling over optical fibre links. A terminal is built from multiplexer, demultiplexer, channel, alarm and power units in a common card-cage shelf, and units are matched to the specific shelf generation and release they were built for.

Units in the X715x block form the optical transmit/receive side of a FOTS terminal rather than tributary channel or alarm cards. NEC has not supported this generation for many years; the shelf and slot the replacement is going into is the surest route to an exact match.
