NEC X7153B: Card for the NEC FOTS/FD-1840 optical transmission platform.

The NEC X7153B is a high-speed optical transmit card (FOTS-HS XMT OPT) for NEC’s FOTS (Fiber Optic Transmission System) FD-1840-series optical transmission platform, SDH/PDH-generation fibre-optic transmission equipment used to multiplex and carry voice, data and alarm signalling over optical fibre links. A terminal is built from multiplexer, demultiplexer, channel, alarm and power units in a common card-cage shelf, and units are matched to the specific shelf generation and release they were built for.

As the transmit-side optical unit, the X7153B launches the aggregate signal from the multiplexer onto the fibre; a working terminal needs a matching receive-side unit at the far end. NEC has not supported this generation for many years, so spares are held stock rather than a current manufacturer supply.
