Newbridge 90-2305-43/J: STM-1 multimode fibre interface card for the MainStreet Xpress 36170 ATM switch.

The Newbridge 90-2305-43/J is an STM-1 multimode fibre interface card for the MainStreet Xpress 36170 ATM switch. It terminates a 155Mbit/s STM-1 optical link and adapts it into the switch fabric, carrying ATM cells over an SDH physical layer so that the switch can connect to a transmission network built on standard SDH infrastructure. The multimode variant is specified for short reach, typically links within an exchange building or between adjacent racks, where the run does not justify single-mode optics. Cards in the 90-2305 series cover several optical types including intermediate-reach and electrical variants, so the suffix identifies which physical interface a given card carries and needs to match the link it serves. Alcatel acquired Newbridge Networks in February 2000, and the MainStreet Xpress 36170 was subsequently marketed as the Alcatel 7470 MSP. Tech-Star, UK-based and shipping worldwide, supplies Newbridge interface cards for legacy ATM network maintenance.
