The Nortel A0656598 is an OEM external power adapter for the Nortel i2002 and i2004 IP telephones, rated at 16V AC and 500mA output. It is the standalone mains power supply for these desk phones in installations where power is not delivered over the Ethernet cable via inline or midspan Power over Ethernet, plugging into the phone’s DC input and providing local power independent of the switch it is connected to. The i2002 and i2004 were Nortel’s early-generation IP desk phones, later carried forward under Avaya following Avaya’s 2009 acquisition of Nortel’s enterprise communications business, and both models remain widely deployed on legacy CS1000/Succession telephony systems that have not yet moved to full PoE infrastructure or newer handsets. A failed or missing power adapter is one of the simplest and most common faults on a non-PoE-powered IP phone, and an OEM-specification replacement avoids the voltage and polarity mismatches that a generic adapter can introduce.
