The Nortel AA0005A17-E5 is the chassis for Nortel’s Redundant Power Supply Unit 15 (RPSU 15), an external bay that houses up to three hot-swappable power modules and supplies backup DC power to a connected BayStack or Business Policy Switch (BPS2000) unit over a dedicated cable. Installing the RPSU 15 chassis lets a site add power redundancy to switches that would otherwise fail outright if their internal supply went down, which matters most on edge switches carrying voice, security or other always-on traffic. The chassis itself ships without power modules or connecting cable, both ordered separately to match the exact switch model in use. BayStack and BPS2000 switches remain widely deployed, and the RPSU 15 chassis is the standard way sites add resilience to that installed base.
