The Nortel NTCA70XK is an OC-48 DWDM transponder card tuned to 1555.75nm with an open (client-side) interface, part of the documented NTCA-prefixed transponder family used across Nortel’s OME 6500 and OPTera Metro optical transport platforms. Open-interface transponders take a standard, non-DWDM client signal, in this case at OC-48 (2.5Gbit/s), and convert it onto its assigned ITU DWDM wavelength for transport across the shared fibre, with the 1555.75nm channel corresponding to one specific slot on the platform’s ITU wavelength grid. These optical transport shelves remain in service across a number of established metro and regional networks, and genuine transponders tuned to the correct wavelength are needed to restore or expand capacity on a specific DWDM channel.
