The Scientific Atlanta D9840 is a DVB/PowerVu satellite receiver from Scientific Atlanta’s D98xx family, decoding MPEG-2 digital video and data delivered over satellite using Scientific Atlanta’s PowerVu conditional access and transport system alongside standard DVB compliance. Units in this family were widely deployed by broadcasters, cable headends and commercial/government video distribution networks to receive encrypted or in-the-clear satellite feeds for onward local distribution, providing composite/component or ASI outputs depending on model and configuration. The D9840 sits at the receive end of the satellite chain, taking its input from the downconverter/demodulator and outputting decoded video and audio or a transport stream to downstream broadcast or distribution equipment.
