The 3Com 3C16857R is a Switch Fabric Module for the 3Com Switch 7700 chassis, providing 64 Gbps of switching capacity across the system’s slots.

The fabric module carries out the chassis’s Layer 3 route calculation and Layer 2 switching between interface modules, and handles control and management functions including system initialisation, configuration, address-table learning and environmental monitoring. It must be installed in the chassis’s top slot to connect to the backplane, and the system requires this module to operate.
