The 3Com 3C168917 is a combo switching module for the 3Com Switch 7700/7750 series modular chassis switch, providing 4 x 10/100/1000BASE-T copper ports and 12 x 1000BASE-X SFP ports on a single blade. SFP transceivers are purchased separately to suit the fibre or copper media required.

The mixed copper/SFP port layout makes the 3C168917 well suited to uplink and aggregation roles where a small number of local copper connections are needed alongside a larger number of flexible fibre uplinks. Like other Switch 7700 modules it supports on-board local Layer 2 switching to reduce backplane loading, and carries a manufacturer-quoted MTBF of around 66 years (576,000 hours).
