The CoreBuilder 9000 was 3Com’s high-end enterprise core chassis through the late 1990s and early 2000s, built around a shared backplane that could carry a mix of Ethernet, ATM and management modules, and installations built on it are typically kept running with genuine spares rather than replaced outright while the chassis still meets the site’s core-switching needs.
